“It’s time for a new generation of leadership in Louisiana. I’m running for representative to help working families get ahead by taking on the political system that’s rigged in favor of big business, lower the cost of insurance, improve education and promote economic development that provides the opportunity of prosperity for every member of our community.”  – Ed Murray

Ed’s Priorities

Lower the cost of Insurance

Big insurance is making record profits while constantly raising rates on policyholders. The people of New Orleans spend the 3rd highest percentage of their income on housing costs in the nation, in large part due to the sky-high cost of insurance. We need reforms that require more transparency on how insurance companies set rates and hold insurers accountable when they needlessly delay and deny legitimate claims.

Early Childhood Education

A strong educational system is the key to a stronger economy, lower crime and a bright future – and that starts with increased access to early childhood education. Kids who receive access to early childhood education are more likely to excel in school, stay out of trouble and have bright futures.  Our schools and teachers must be given the resources they need to provide every child in New Orleans a world-class education – no exceptions.

Economic Prosperity

The high cost of living in New Orleans is putting too much stress on our families. Food, fuel, utilities, insurance, housing and transportation – it all adds up in a hurry. Too many families in our community simply can’t afford to make ends meet.  Lowering the cost of living should be the top priority for every member of the legislature.

Safe Neighborhoods

We all deserve to feel safe in our homes, at work and when out in the community. That calls for more neighborhood policing, increased recreational opportunities, an increase in rehabilitation programs and a judicial system that locks up violent criminals while respecting the rights of victims.

Reduce Blight

New Orleans has too many blighted properties which lead to increased crime and decreased property values. Ed will work to bolster programs that allow blighted properties to be repaired or replaced so they can be put back into commerce, while also protecting the rights of property owners.

Stop the Brain Drain

For too many years, our best and brightest have been leaving New Orleans for Houston, Atlanta and beyond. The brain drain disproportionately affects communities of color throughout our city. Ed will work to promote policies that help retain young professionals so they will start businesses, create jobs and start families here in New Orleans.
